A Midwest based scaling technology organization is hiring Senior and Staff Back-End Engineers to build and scale distributed systems supporting nationwide operations. These platforms power real-time workflows, large data pipelines, and event-streaming systems that underpin core business processes. All roles are fully remote within the United States.
We’re looking for backend specialists who excel in event-driven architectures, cloud-native development, and building high-reliability systems at scale.
Responsibilities
• Build and maintain distributed backend services, APIs, streaming pipelines and asynchronous processing systems.
• Architect high-availability, fault-tolerant systems that support large-scale data movement and real-time events.
• Work with product teams to understand user and business needs, shaping backend solutions that drive meaningful outcomes.
• Design observability, monitoring, and resiliency patterns across backend systems.
• Lead or contribute to platform-wide initiatives such as migrations, performance improvements or system redesigns.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering standards and architectural direction.
What We’re Looking For
• Senior-level expertise in backend development with languages such as Python, Go, Java, or TypeScript.
• Strong experience with event-driven architectures using tools such as Kafka, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, or similar patterns.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, data modelling and cloud-native design.
• Experience scaling backend systems that support high throughput, large user bases or complex data flows.
• A product-focused approach—aligning backend capabilities with user needs, operational realities and long-term business goals.
• Ability to drive technical strategy, lead complex projects and improve engineering processes (Staff level).
