About the Company
Oxbow Talent is partnering with one of the most established and innovative technology companies in the United States, recognised globally for developing sophisticated software that brings together data, artificial intelligence and real-world operations.
The organisation works on some of the most technically challenging problems across government, defence and enterprise environments, building platforms that enable users to make better decisions using complex and rapidly changing information.
With significant investment in autonomous systems and next-generation AI capabilities, the business is expanding a specialist engineering team responsible for developing mission-critical software.
This is an opportunity to join a highly talented engineering organisation working on technology with genuine real-world impact.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Frontend Software Engineer to join a newly established team developing advanced software for autonomous systems and operational decision-making.
The position combines sophisticated frontend engineering with full-stack development, systems integration and real-world software deployment.
You will build highly interactive applications that bring together live data from sensors, autonomous platforms, AI systems and other operational technologies, enabling users to understand complex environments and make informed decisions in real time.
Unlike a traditional frontend engineering position, you will have the opportunity to work closely with backend engineers, AI specialists, systems engineers and hardware teams to deliver software operating in demanding environments.
This is a hands-on engineering role offering significant ownership, technical variety and exposure to cutting-edge technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and deploy sophisticated frontend applications using React, TypeScript and JavaScript.
- Build intuitive, high-performance user interfaces that visualise complex operational information and real-time data.
- Develop interactive dashboards, mapping applications and data visualisation tools for mission-critical systems.
- Integrate frontend applications with backend services, APIs, autonomous platforms and AI-powered decision systems.
- Work with live and streaming data from sensors, robotics platforms and other connected technologies.
- Contribute across the full software development lifecycle from initial requirements and architecture through testing, integration and deployment.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams spanning frontend, backend, AI, robotics, infrastructure and systems engineering.
- Troubleshoot complex technical challenges involving application performance, networking, integration and deployment.
- Help deliver reliable software across cloud, on-premises and hybrid environments.
- Work directly with technical stakeholders and end users to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions.
Essential Requirements
- Approximately 2–6 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally with a strong frontend specialisation.
- Strong commercial experience developing production applications with React, TypeScript and JavaScript.
- Demonstrable experience building sophisticated user-facing applications rather than purely backend services.
- Strong understanding of frontend architecture, component-based development, application state management and performance optimisation.
- Experience integrating applications with REST APIs or other backend services.
- Ability to work across the wider software stack and understand how frontend applications interact with complex technical systems.
- Experience contributing to production software delivery, testing and deployment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to operate independently in technically challenging environments.
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Genuine interest in developing technology supporting defence, autonomous systems and mission-critical operations.
- US citizenship and eligibility and willingness to obtain a US Security Clearance.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25–75% depending on project requirements.
Desirable Experience
We would be particularly interested in engineers with experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Real-time frontend development: WebSockets, WebRTC, streaming data or live operational dashboards.
- Advanced visualisation: D3.js, Highcharts, Three.js, WebGL or similar technologies.
- Mapping and geospatial systems: Mapbox, Cesium, GIS, interactive mapping or location-based data visualisation.
- Autonomous systems: Robotics, drones, UAVs, sensors, telemetry, simulation or command-and-control applications.
- Infrastructure and deployment: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Linux and cloud platforms.
- Full-stack engineering: Python, Node.js, Java, Rust or other backend technologies.
- Experience building software for defence, aerospace, industrial technology or other operationally critical environments.
Previous defence experience is advantageous but not essential. We are equally interested in strong frontend engineers from other industries who have worked with complex data, real-time systems or technically demanding applications.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
Work on meaningful technology
Build software that supports real-world operational decisions and advanced autonomous systems rather than conventional consumer applications.
Solve challenging frontend problems
Work with complex datasets, live information, advanced visualisation and sophisticated interfaces where frontend engineering plays a central role.
Exposure to cutting-edge technologies
Collaborate with engineers developing AI-powered systems, autonomous platforms, sensor integrations and next-generation operational software.
Significant technical ownership
Take responsibility for engineering solutions from initial design through production deployment while working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Career development
Join a globally recognised technology organisation offering exposure to highly complex engineering challenges and opportunities for long-term progression.
Competitive compensation
Base salary of $135,000 – $200,000, depending on experience, plus restricted stock units and a comprehensive benefits package.
Apply
If you are a strong React and TypeScript engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and wants to build software with genuine real-world impact, we would be interested in hearing from you.
Apply through Oxbow Talent for a confidential discussion about the opportunity.
Please note that applicants must be US citizens and eligible and willing to obtain a US Security Clearance. This position does not offer visa sponsorship.
