I’m supporting a growing tech organisation that’s investing heavily in modernising its internal engineering platform. They’re hiring a Principal Technical Product Manager to lead strategy and delivery for core backend and data platform services—critical infrastructure used daily by hundreds of developers.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys deeply technical product work, thrives in platform environments, and wants ownership of long-term vision.
The Opportunity
You’ll oversee a portfolio that includes cloud-based datastores, AWS-native services, and on-premise data solutions. Your mission is to create a seamless developer experience—reducing friction, improving scalability, and enabling teams to ship faster and more confidently.
You’ll partner closely with engineering, architecture, security, and internal technical stakeholders to turn complex requirements into practical, high-value platform enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Define a clear strategy and roadmap for core platform and data services.
- Engage with engineering teams to understand their workflows, challenges, and priorities.
- Convert technical and user needs into well-structured epics, specs, and backlog items.
- Collaborate with platform engineers to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.
- Advocate for platform adoption through documentation, best practices, and training.
- Manage the lifecycle of platform technologies, from evaluation to deprecation.
- Use metrics (performance, reliability, cost, developer satisfaction) to guide decisions.
- Align with security, compliance, and finance to ensure platform integrity and efficiency.
What You Bring
- 5+ years in product management, ideally building developer-facing or infrastructure-focused products.
- Strong technical background in software engineering, SRE, DevOps, or cloud/infrastructure architecture.
- Deep understanding of AWS (e.g., RDS, S3, DynamoDB, IAM) and general cloud architecture.
- Experience across different datastore types: relational, NoSQL, and in-memory.
- Strong communication skills—comfortable simplifying complex concepts for cross-functional groups.
- Ability to assess internal/external technology options and make informed build-vs-buy decisions.
- A developer-centric mindset focused on improving productivity and workflow.
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience presenting to executive leadership.
- Advanced AWS knowledge or certifications.
- Background supporting global or high-growth engineering organisations.
