The opportunity
Oxbow Talent is working with an established, growing technology business looking to bring a Senior Software Engineer into its engineering team.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys building software, solving complex technical problems and having a genuine influence on the direction of a product.
The business has an established customer base, a commercially proven platform and ambitious plans for growth. Unlike many early-stage companies, the foundations are already in place. The focus now is on developing the technology further, introducing new capabilities and strengthening the engineering function.
You’ll be joining a small engineering team where your work will have a direct impact on the product and how the business develops.
The role
This is a genuinely full-stack position, offering variety across backend development, frontend applications and cloud infrastructure.
One day you might be designing and developing backend services, the next building new functionality in React or improving the infrastructure supporting the platform.
You’ll have the freedom to take ownership of your work, contribute to technical decisions and help shape engineering practices as the team continues to grow.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on but also wants to have a say in how things are built.
What you’ll be doing
-
Designing, developing and maintaining scalable applications and services.
-
Building and improving RESTful APIs and backend systems.
-
Developing new features across the web application.
-
Working with cloud infrastructure and deployment processes.
-
Taking ownership of features from initial design through to production.
-
Contributing to technical decisions, architecture and engineering best practices.
-
Identifying opportunities to improve performance, reliability and scalability.
-
Working closely with a small team to deliver new product functionality.
-
Helping establish strong engineering standards as the team grows.
The technology
The engineering environment includes:
-
Backend: TypeScript, NestJS
-
Frontend: React
-
Database: MySQL
-
Cloud: AWS
-
Infrastructure: Docker, CI/CD
Experience with at least two of these technologies would be beneficial, although we’re also interested in engineers coming from different technical backgrounds who are comfortable learning new technologies.
What we’re looking for
-
3+ years of commercial software engineering experience.
-
Strong programming skills in TypeScript, JavaScript, C#, Java or a similar language.
-
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
-
Good understanding of relational databases and SQL.
-
Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
-
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices.
-
Understanding of software design principles, scalability, security and performance.
-
Comfortable working across different areas of a technology stack.
-
Someone who takes ownership, communicates well and enjoys solving problems.
Previous experience in fintech is not required.
We’re particularly interested in engineers who enjoy the variety and responsibility that come with working in a smaller team.
Why consider it?
Real ownership
You’ll have responsibility for features from initial concept through to delivery, with the opportunity to influence technical decisions.
An established product
You’ll be developing technology that is already in production and being used by customers, rather than building something without proven demand.
Opportunity to influence
As an early senior engineering hire, you’ll have a genuine opportunity to help shape development practices, technical standards and the future engineering team.
Technical variety
You’ll work across backend systems, frontend development and cloud infrastructure, with the freedom to broaden your technical experience.
A collaborative environment
A small engineering team, limited unnecessary meetings and a focus on giving engineers the time and autonomy to build good software.
What’s on offer?
-
Competitive salary package.
-
Equity participation.
-
Flexible working arrangements.
-
Flexible working hours.
-
Generous holiday flexibility.
-
Home office support.
-
Health and wellbeing benefits.
-
Professional development opportunities.
-
The chance to make a meaningful impact within a growing technology business.
